About The Book & Record Bar

Give us the background... when and why did you decide to open a record shop?

I have always collected records, (and books) and prior to opening the shop, had spent 15 years or more buying up them both with the idea of eventually opening the type of shop we have

The shop is also a book shop, coffee shop and fully licensed bar. We have evening DJ events and the occasional gig. It’s a mixture of second hand and new, with a strong selection of collectables and rarities.

I can’t for the life of me remember the name of the first shop I went into – and there is nothing online about it, but my friend had a Saturday day job, so I used to hand around in it a lot. The first single was Indian Reservation by Don Fardon and the first LP The Crazy World of Arthur Brown

Reckless in the West End for second hand, and you can’t not like Rough Trade East

Alex Paterson (The Orb) Youth, Andy Weatherall come to mind…

Magma, Ash Ra Temple and Franco Battiato at the Roundhouse
