New colour vinyl
Dead without Dying & Gleefully Detached is the new album from Dallas’s American Werewolf Academy on solid red/black mix 12” vinyl espeically for RSD 2018 by Damnably Records. It is the bands fifth full length and third to be released in the UK, after the 2011 compilation Everything Is Alright So Far and 2013’s Out Of Place All The Time.
The album finds AWA crafting some of their most raw and melodic material to date, exploring such themes as mortality, unearthly beasts, Armageddon, and the wisdom that comes with age, all inside layers of Cheap Trick-era power chord hooks and the wild absurdity of Roky Erickson, resulting in a blend of sing-able, anthemic rock.
AWA formed in 2003 when guitarist and vocalist Aaron Thedford’s previous band ‘Robot Monster Weekend’ disbanded. Tony Harper (Slobberbone) on drums was recruited by an advert in a bar bathroom. Jake Barnhart joined on bass in 2007, and the band’s newest member Jon Binford on Lapsteel and Lead guitar came on board in 2013 and has helped AWA truly come into its own, adding a layer of heavy shoegaze pedal steel and incendiary bursts of lead. They hail from Dallas, TX of USA and have over the course of 14 years evolved into a fascinating exponent of honest, slightly crazy, high-energy rock. The band have toured with Centro-matic and label mates Wussy.
100% analogue tape recorded, produced & mixed by Matt Barnhart (Bedhead, The New Year, The Gotobeds, Metz. Nots, Xetas).
