Rega to sponsor Record Store Day 2015

Rega Research to create exclusive Record Store Day-branded turntables for Record Store Day 2015

26th August 2014: Record Store Day is delighted to announce that the 2015 edition of the event will be sponsored by independent UK hi-fi turntable manufacturer Rega.

As part of its support for the UK's annual celebration of independent record stores, Essex-based Rega will produce a special limited edition version of its acclaimed and multi-award winning RP1 turntable featuring Record Store Day branding.

Additionally, Rega will promote Record Store Day through its 75 partner stores in the UK, and work with Record Store Day organisers to create a range of branded merchandise.

Kim Bayley, Director General of the Entertainment Retailers Association, which organises Record Store Day in the UK said, "With its independent heritage, commitment to excellence and strong affinity with vinyl culture, Rega is the ideal partner for Record Store Day. The limited edition Record Store Day-branded RP1 turntable will be the perfect complement to Record Store Day's exclusive vinyl releases."

Rega Research was formed over 40 years ago by vinyl fanatics Roy Gandy and Tony Relph and has continued to manufacture hand-built turntables and hi-fi separates at their facility in Southend-on-Sea ever since. From a modest beginning the company now employs over 90 people in a purpose-built factory designed by Roy. Performance, reliability, value for money and incorporating advanced and often unique engineering solutions are all keystones of Rega designs and the multiple awards and high esteem their products are held in internationally bears testament to their quality.

Paul Darwin, UK Sales Manager of Rega Research, said “We are massively proud to be associated with Record Store Day 2015. The synergy between Rega, our retailers and Record Store Day is obvious on every level and we look forward, via our independent dealer network, to actively begin working with Record Store Day stores nationally to promote vinyl and vinyl replay on Record Store Day 2015 and beyond."

Vinyl releases have been a core part of Record Store Day since its launch in the UK in 2008, and Record Store Day has in turn spearheaded the UK vinyl revival. In 2008 there were just over 75,000 vinyl albums sold in the UK. Propelled by Record Store Day sales reached 368,000 units in 2013.

In 2014 Record Store Day featured over 270 exclusive album releases and over 340 exclusive singles on vinyl.

Notes to Editor

Record Store Day was conceived 7 years ago in the USA and was brought to the UK a year later.  Now in its 8th year and co-ordinated by the Entertainment Retailers Association and Spencer Hickman, the day brings together hundreds of the UK’s independent record shops to celebrate their own unique culture.  Exclusive vinyl is made available on the day and the stores often have live shows and other in store events to celebrate the day.
