My Generation Beer Co. named Official Drinks Partner of Record Store Day 2015

Record Store Day is pleased to announce that the new independent beer brand, My Generation Beer Company, will be the Official Drinks Partner of this year’s event.

My Generation Beer 

27th January 2015: Record Store Day is pleased to announce that the new independent beer brand, My Generation Beer Company, will be the Official Drinks Partner of this year’s event.

Signature brew, My Generation, is a 4.2%, hopped up, light golden ale brewed in Masham, Yorkshire and is collaboration between Jonny Kirkham and Rob and Jo Theakston of Black Sheep. 

My Generation Beer Co. is positioned squarely around authentic music, artistry and the love of vinyl and will be supporting musical happenings and small festivals this summer.

Jonny Kirkham, founder of My Generation Beer Co, said, “There’s a love of music in everyone and the My Generation Beer Company is bringing together quality beer and music from all genres. We are proud to be working with Record Store Day to support independent record shops and celebrate the beauty of vinyl records.  Listening to music on this format remains a magical experience and by supporting events like Record Store Day we hope to play a part in introducing vinyl to a new generation of music fans. We place a lot of value on tradition and authenticity so this is a perfect partnership.”

As part of its support for Record Store Day, My Generation Beer will promote the day in London pubs where stocked and across social media as well as having branded merchandise on sale. 

Kim Bayley, Director General of the Entertainment Retailers Association, which administers Record Store Day in the UK said, “We are delighted to be partnering with the My Generation Beer Co. who clearly share many of the same music and cultural values as our independent record shops. With its independent background and passion for music, this is the perfect partnership allowing us to introduce the joy of vinyl records to a wider audience of beer and music fans.”

Record Store Day has played a core role in the vinyl revival since its launch in the UK 2008. In 2014, vinyl album sales passed the one million mark for the first time since the Britpop era.

Last year’s Record Store Day featured over 270 exclusive album releases and over 340 exclusive singles on vinyl.

Record Store Day was conceived 7 years ago in the USA and was brought to the UK a year later.  Now in its 8th year and co-ordinated by the Entertainment Retailers Association and Spencer Hickman, the day brings together hundreds of the UK’s independent record shops to celebrate their own unique culture.  Exclusive vinyl is made available on the day and the stores often have live shows and other in store events to celebrate the day.
